Good Morning Lake
Argyle!
Low 13°c (55°F) – High 28°c
(82°F)
72km
Awake early to catch the sunrise however I decided to just
snap a shot from the van as the colour this morning was nowhere near as strong
as yesterday. Being early was and wasn’t
so much of an advantage today. We knew
we needed to get to Kununurra early if we were to stand any chance of getting
into the showgrounds (be there by 10.00 was the advice from the manager)
however with the first light of sunrise occurring before 5.30am, having packed most
of the outside up last night, and only 70km to go there was no need to rush out
the door. Or so we thought…..
We were really sad to leave Lake Argyle as we’ve really
enjoyed the relaxing ambience of this place as well as the sights. After an equally relaxed pack up and hook up
we were on the road by 8.00am. Not much
to photograph along the way as half of the trip included the run in off the
Victoria Highway to Lake Argyle and the rest was fairly uninteresting albeit
yet more rough road to navigate.
We pulled in to the showgrounds to be informed that we were
the lucky last to snag a site. With a
maximum number of vans able to be accommodated (28) it doesn’t take long for
the ground to fill up obviously being full at 9.00am. We had a bit of a wait, along with two other
couples just ahead of us, while sites were vacated but eventually took our
place in what turned out to be a really great spot with plenty of shade and
close to amenities. While we were
waiting Shane managed to contact a gas plumber as I had identified a leak while
at Timber Creek at the front of the van in the gas regulator and we hadn’t been
using gas for cooking or hot water since that time which has been inconvenient
but safety first.
Both of us (well truth be known – all three of us) are really
feeling the effects of the time difference.
Aside from Kitty being totally confused about what time dinner should be
served, both Shane and I have been incredibly tired, and while the early
mornings out taking photos have certainly contributed, going to bed early is resulting
in those early rises anyway. We’re going
to have to try to break that cycle and get into a better space as best we
can.
Shane headed out to pick up some basics that we haven’t had
since crossing the border after having to ensure we had no fresh fruit and
veggies to pass through quarantine. We
were amazed that there were no supplies to speak of available at Lake Argyle as
everyone coming from the Northern Territory would be in the same situation. On his return after not being able to buy
much of anything due to shelves being pretty much empty of everything and
advice from the staff that shopping needs to be done early (prior to 7.00am) if
you want your choice of items including cooked chickens!
The plumber arrived while Shane was gone, and despite being
advised the issue was the regulator didn’t have one on board and had to return
to his workshop. Back armed with a new
one he installed it all under an hour.
$300 - thank you very much! Will
that be cash or card. Cash? Apparently cash doesn’t come with a
reciprocating invoice or receipt here.
Aside from that and just getting things set up for our 3
night stay here, the rest of the day was just reading and relaxing, and a chat
with our neighbours. Unfortunately a
burn-off across the road created an enormous amount of smoke which infiltrated
the van before we got the windows closed and continued through the night.
